• FWIW, I'm probably not going to be crossposting to GJ anymore. LJ is still my main journal and the main place I'll watch my flist, and I'm cross-posting some (public only) content to IJ at ths point. I'm going to wait and see what the fandom does over the next couple of months before I make a shift. I'm not thrilled with the idea of fandom relocating, and despite the asshattery of LJ, I can't help but hope it won't happen. But if the fandom goes, I will too. *sigh*

• I just spent about an hour friending as many people as I could on IJ. I'm sure there are still a lot of people I have friended on LJ that I haven't found on IJ yet, but I'm slowly catching up. It was hard not not notice that many people I've had mutually friended for years haven't friended me there. I'm usually not that concerned about such things, but still. Meep.

• I think some of you have done this already, but you know those new Pepsi-sponsored free v-gifts LJ is making available? Lots of folks have been sending them to LJ News with a message letting them know exactly what they think. You can see all the v-gifts LJ News has gotten here. If you want to send your own message, go here and scroll all the way down to the bottom. Again, it's free (advertising). Gee, I guess now we know why LJ went on an anti-porn spree -- they had to "clean up" the place for their new big corporate sponsor. God, I miss the old days.

Happy Saturday!

Also posted: LJ

Anyone thinking of going to Wrockstock, the Wizard Rock festival being held outside of St. Louis the weekend before Halloween? I really want to go (it's an easy flight from here), but it would be a lot more fun if people I know were going to be there. Anyone?

From the web page:

We're the St. Louis Area Wizards, and we are pleased to present Wrockstock Spooktacular 2007. The Wrockstock Spooktacular is a music festival, not unlike Woodstock, dedicated to the awesome Wizard Rock Bands out there. All procedes from the WrockStock will go to The Harry Potter Alliance (you can read more about this at the bottom of this page). Here's some general info (forgive us while the web wizards work their magic!):

Name: Wrockstock Spooktacular

Dates: October 26-28, 2007

Location: Trout Lodge, Potosi, MO

This will be a relaxed weekend full of HP fun, wizard rock and halloween-y goodness. Two nights of music, one electric, one acoustic...other activities will include a Triwizard Tournament, Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday party, HP crafts, plus it's a choose-your-own-adventure weekend, where you can create your own schedule of daytime activities based on what the Lodge offers.

12 bands! w00t!

I'm having some major technical difficulties here on IJ. I can't seem to access the "Edit friends" function. Every time I try to click on it, I'm taken back to my friends page. In fact, I can't seem to do anything at the moment except access my journal, my friends page, and my user info page. All of the functions that would allow me to actually change my settings seem not to be working. Is it just me?

Edit: Everything works in IE, but not in Firefox. In fact, it works in an IE tab on Firefox. Any idea as to what might be going wrong?

Edit 2: Okay, I think I figured it out. I was using the "Clean" site viewing option, and for some reason that one wasn't working for me in Firefox. As soon as I chose another one, everything was fine. Huh.
Unpopular fandom opinions

1. I made my own post on this the other day, but I totally agree with xanphibian's post here about how so many in fandom seem to be lashing out at the pro-ana communities. Among other quite sensible things, she says:

One of the problems I have with this petition and outcry is the hypocrisy. On several levels. For one thing, a lot of fandom has it out for LJ/6A. I hear ya. I understand. But the solution to censorship is not more censorship. The people who cry 'free speech!' and 'freedom of expression!' need to take a good look at what they are advocating here. Also, those same people who say 'I can't believe they keep calling us pedophiles! How dare they! They don't know us!' should be able to relate more to this community, not less! We hate it when people who are from outside our subculture judge us, because they don't 'get us' and they don't 'try to see reason'. I don't understand how fandom folks who have never battled anorexia or dealt with this stage in mental illness can read a few posts and suddenly declare them 'freaks' when we know what that feels like.

I can see an argument for people saying "Hey, if you let these comms exist you should leave us alone." But by the time the message gets to LJ (as it also did in Nipplegate), it's become the contrapositive: "If you aren't going to leave us alone, then these comms should go too." (Sure, they're logically equivalent, but we all know that's not how humans think.) LJ/6A has proved time and time again that they don't respond in reasonable, customer-friendly ways; yet fandom persists in expecting them to do so. Honestly, I think we should either accept that or move on. All other options involve exposing ourselves and our dubiously-legal hobbies to public (and copyright holder) view, which is NOT a good thing.

Face it: the average person on the street out there thinks we're freaks and geeks, with a weird, unhealthy, and even perverted obsession for a children's book. They don't get us, they likely think we need professional help before we harm ourselves and others, and they would have little sympathy if our porn gets kicked off of LJ. You'd think we'd have more sympathy for some of the other controversial groups out there.

2. Anonymous comments annoy me. I've never made an anon comment during my 4.5 years on LJ, because if I have something to say to someone, I'll comment using my own name. (I might make a flocked post, but that's not intended for their eyes, which is different.) Posting a snide, insulting comment anonymously is the height of asshattery IMO. If someone is too afraid to sign their name to their comment, why should I take their words seriously?

So I don't. Anon comments are screened on my LJ, and when I get one, the first thing I do is scan down to the end to see if the person has signed their name. (There are people who don't have LJs who comment on mine regularly, and they always use their names.) If there's no name, I don't read it, nor do I unscreen it. If the person didn't have enough balls to own up to their own words, I'm not going to take them seriously. I refuse to argue with someone hiding behind the Anon label, mostly because once comments are anonymous, all sense that you are talking to another person is forgotten. People will say things anonymously that they would never say to a person's face. That's not a conversation -- it's trolling. I have no respect for trolls.

I should note that the exception to this opinion is when someone comments anonymously to contribute important information to a discussion that they don't want traced back to them, perhaps because it could jeopardize their job or something. That's understandable and appreciated.

3. It makes me sad to see people flocking and deleting their fic and fleeing for the internet hills. I understand that no one wants to be a test case, but the reality is that LJ hasn't gone on a deleting rampage. AFAIK not a single porny fic has gotten its writer's LJ bahleeted. If I'm wrong on that, please correct me, but I kinda think we would have heard about it by now.

I have content posted on this LJ that is probably not allowed under the TOS, and I'm not planning to delete it or lock it. Maybe that's naive of me, but I've got it all backed up and archived elsewhere. I'm not convinced that 6A/LJ is out to get us, and I don't think they really want fandom gone. They seem happy to take our money as long as we play quietly. They know what we do here, and they've been tolerant of our peculiarities for a long time. I think they just want this mess to just go away quickly and quietly. And let's face it -- when we get pissed off, we're anything but quiet. Fandom can bring the drama and wank better than anyone, with the possible exception of the childfree vs.breastfeeding community. Those people can wank.

But you know, I doubt we engender any sympathy from 6A/LJ when we respond like we have done. Yes, they utterly suck at customer service, but it's ultimately their sandbox and we have to play by their rules. I sort of imagine them rolling their eyes at us and trying to say as little as possible, thinking that if they give it a couple of weeks and avoid doing anything else to piss off fandom, and it will all die down. I don't really think it will -- people have stopped trusting LJ and are looking for other places to go, and I doubt it will ever be the same here again. But if they suddenly deleted a dozen more LJs, it would only stir up the shitstorm again, and I really don't think they want that. Not because they care about us, but because they're a company, and this sort of thing hurts the money-making.

That said, I really think they should implement a warning system. Honestly, I could play by their rules if I (a) knew what they were and (b) knew that my entire LJ would not be deleted with no warning for something I didn't even know was a TOS violation. I would delete stuff if they told me to, you know? I'm not sure any of that had a point. So:

In conclusion, porn. :-P

The old pages are still there so that no links will be broken, but the link on the front page now goes to my new archive. I installed eFiction 3.3 and uploaded every bit of fic I've ever written. The only fics I didn't upload were the ones from Queer as Jedi, since they're all already hosted on the site. I've also included art when I could. AFAIK, all the artists have given me prior permission to post their stuff on my site, but if you see something of yours there and would rather I take it down, let me know.

It was frightening how much of my fic was only on LJ. I've never been one to cross-post, and so much of it was just on my journal, with a link to the post from the index on my web page. If my LJ had been deleted, a lot of that would have just disappeared. It was also interesting to note that back in 2003, I wasn't posting a lot of fic on my LJ. Most of what I was writing was posted to mailing lists and wound up on associated archives. When I first started posting fic on my LJ, it was with the idea that just a handful of friends would see it and give me constructive feedback, but I had no expectation that lots of people would see it, or would consider it a finished product. That all changed about two weeks into Left My Heart, though. After that, LJ became the primary place I would post new fic, and I don't think I posted on mailing lists again after the summer of 2004. It was interesting to look back over the last five years and see how the way I've used LJ has changed. Sadly, I think it might be about to change again.

I've installed eFiction 3.3 on my site and am in the process of uploading every fic I've ever written there. I've been using LJ as an archive of sorts for the last couple of years; in fact most links from my web page go to LJ entries. And with everything that's happened lately, the thought of having a good chunk of my fic only on LJ is a bit disconcerting. I have a lot of it archived in other places (like Skyehawke and TQP), but there was really no single place where every bit of it was located. Well, there will be very soon!

So I'm re-reading a lot of my fic as I go, which is kind of fun, but also a bit sad. So much of what I've written is connected to someone else's work -- to a post someone made, to a piece of art someone drew, or to another fic someone wrote. And as those things get moved or flocked, all of that connectivity is being lost. I have a lot of dead links now, sadly, and I know I'm not the only one. It's not quite the same without the context, and I'm angry and saddened to see that slipping away. I understand that no one wants to be a test case for LJ Abuse, but at the same time I want to tell people not to back down so quickly, you know? *sigh* I'm not flocking any of my stuff on my own journal, FWIW.

By the way, if you have anything posted on pornish_pixies or erotic_elves on LJ, please go and flock it if you haven't already. If you don't do it by the comms' deadlines, your work might be deleted -- meaning that we've lost yet another bit of our fandom history. And if you are 18 or older, please go JOIN those comms so that you can still read all the good flocked stuff.
You know what the saddest thing about all this LJ controversy is? No porn.. Dudes, two weeks after DH, we should be rolling in the porn, but no. So I decided to do something about it. Besides, I promised people at Prophecy that I had Snarry to write. This is a start... ;-)

Title: 101 Uses for a Pensieve
Author: Emma Grant
Summary: Harry learns quite a lot from digging through Snape's memories.
Pairing: Snape/Lupin, Snape/Lupin/Harry
Rating: Adult.
Length: 2100 words
Warning: Spoilers for DH. Threesome. Porn. May defy the physics of pensieve memories. Link to this at your own peril.
Disclaimer: All characters in this fic are over the age of 18. So nyah. :-P

Harry closed the door behind Ron and Hermione and leaned back against it. He was flattered that they were so concerned about him, really, but he disliked the hovering.

You should get out more, Harry!

Why won't you tell us what happened with Ginny?

It's not healthy for you to coop yourself up in this house all the time.

Probably not, but he couldn't be arsed -- not now, anyway. He'd had a hell of a year, and he deserved a little quiet time, a few months to himself to do nothing if he damn well pleased.

He headed back down the narrow corridor to the kitchen, asked Kreacher for a cup of tea, and then carried the steaming cup up to the library. He lit the old oil lamps with a flick of his wand, closed that door behind him as well, and crossed to the desk. He set the cup and saucer on its freshly-dusted surface, next to the shallow stone basin that he'd recently acquired from the Headmaster's office at Hogwarts. McGonagall had hardly been in a position to refuse him when he'd asked, and though she'd not been entirely pleased, he'd bottled up the memories it contained and whisked the basin away before she could think of a reason to refuse him.

He'd merely wanted to have Snape's memories again, the ones Snape had bequeathed him with his dying breath. He'd wanted to watch them over and over, to see his young parents' faces, to get to know the troubled young boy who would become the Death Eater Severus Snape.

Of course, it hadn't occurred to him at the time that Snape might have left other memories in the basin before he fled Hogwarts -- ones he hadn't meant Harry to see.

He took a single swig of his tea and then placed his hands on both sides of the basin, concentrating on a particular memory he wanted to find. There were so many, but he had his favorites -- and tonight he knew just the one he wanted.

He plunged his face into the swirling liquid and felt himself falling, twisting, and finally landing on a dusty floor in this very house. He stood and looked around. Any minute now.

The door opened and Severus Snape burst through it, snarling. He closed the door behind him and pointed his wand at the lock, but not quickly enough -- it opened again, and Remus Lupin stormed through, looking just as angry as Snape did.

"Don't you dare walk away from me!"

"I'll do as I wish, Lupin." The last word was drawn out as if Snape liked the way it felt wrapped around his tongue. "This isn't your house."

"It's not yours either." Lupin closed the door behind him and took several steps forward. "It belongs to Harry now and--"

"Must you always bring Potter into these discussions? Could you possibly manage to go ten minutes without waxing poetic about--"

"This has nothing to do with Harry, so stop changing the subject." Lupin's eyes were fierce.

Snape turned away. "If you're here to tell me about your dalliances with the auror Tonks, you're a bit late. It's quite obvious."

Lupin frowned at that. "It's not like that at all."

"Don't insult my intelligence."

"That's hardly a challenge," Lupin replied, smirking. He took another step forward, and Snape turned to look at him.

"What are you doing?"

"Nothing." Another step. "Interesting choice of rooms, this."

Snape looked around at the newspaper clippings and photos spelled onto the walls. "Is it?"

Lupin took two more steps forward and was standing toe-to-toe with Snape now. "This was Sirius's bedroom. Didn't you know?"

Snape scowled, but didn't look away. "I suppose you find that ironic."

"He wouldn't. But he's dead, and it doesn't really matter now, does it?" Before Snape could answer, one of Lupin's hands slid around the back of Snape's neck and pulled him in for a rough kiss.

The first time Harry had seen this, he'd nearly fallen over from surprise. His immediate reaction had been one of disgust, though after a few moments he'd realized it hadn't been disgust at what Lupin and Snape were doing. It had been a sort of disgust that Snape had kissed anyone -- ever.

But after repeated viewings, he felt quite differently. He edged his way around the scene now to a spot that gave him a better view. Kissing in Muggle movies always seemed so romantic and delicate, but watching real people kiss was a bit more messy. Lupin's and Snape's mouths were open wide and pressed together roughly, something that reminded him a bit of the way Ron and Lavender had tried to eat each other's faces back in sixth year. Of course, he'd found that disgusting to watch. But this? This was different.

"I despise you," Snape said, his voice a rough whisper.

"No you don't." Lupin's hand disappeared into Snape's robes. "At least, you don't despise this."

Snape made a very un-Snape-like sound at that and dove in to kiss Lupin again, hands tearing at his shabby robes. Lupin's hand stayed solidly between Snape's thighs as he began backing him toward the bed. They hit it and fell over, their hands too busy pulling at each other's clothing to brace themselves. Robes and trousers were shrugged off and landed on the floor, and then Lupin was pressing Snape down into the dusty bed cover, one hand still between them.

Harry unfastened the fly of his jeans, which had started to grow tight the moment Snape had moaned, and climbed onto the bed beside them. He pulled out his own erection and stroked it to hardness, leaning back against a corner post of the bed. Lupin rolled to the side, giving Harry a clear view of their two hard pricks.

Lupin still had Snape's cock in hand and was stroking it slowly. Snape was staring back up at him with blazing eyes, as if daring him to do what Harry knew came next. With a wicked grin, Lupin reversed his position on the bed, leaned forward, and swallowed Snape's cock whole.

Harry moaned at the sight of it and stroked himself a little harder, trying to imagine what having a mouth on his prick might feel like. He was sure Ginny would have done it, but every time he'd kissed her in the last few months, all he could think about were the memories of Snape and Lupin. He didn't know what it meant -- if he was gay, or if he was just a voyeur -- but he wanted to figure it out first, before he could hurt anyone again. He just wasn't quite sure how to go about it.

For now, this was enough -- Lupin's head bobbing up and down on Snape's stiff prick, revealing wet skin and a tongue swirling around the head before Lupin's nose was pressed into the dark hair at the base again, over and over. Snape's long fingers were curled around Lupin's prick as well, but it seemed he couldn't concentrate on stroking properly at the moment.

Harry was getting too close now, and he slowed down his strokes. The best part was yet to come.

Snape released Lupin's prick and pressed one hand against the back of Lupin's head, fingers gripping his hair tightly. He didn't make a sound as he came; his mouth fell open and he grimaced, and his body seemed to tense. Lupin didn't stop moving until it seemed to be over, and even then kept sucking Snape's cock until he was pushed away.

He grinned and wiped his mouth as he sat up, and without saying a word, slipped off the bed to fish through his robes. He reappeared with his wand in hand and siphoned a glittering substance from the tip, raising an eyebrow at Snape.

Snape slid down to the edge of the mattress without being asked, and lifted his legs over Lupin's shoulders. Lupin's hand disappeared for a moment behind Snape's arse, and then reappeared, stroking his own cock.

Harry shrugged off his jeans and pants, keeping his eyes fixed on Lupin's hand as it guided his prick below Snape's balls and out of sight. Snape hissed as Lupin pressed into him, his eyes clenched, and Lupin pressed a kiss to the ankle on his shoulder, a determined look on his scarred face. After a minute had passed, he seemed to be all the way in, and Snape relaxed visibly.

Harry tried to imagine what it felt like. He'd put his own fingers up his arse and he'd liked it, especially stroking in and out, but he wondered how much a big cock like Lupin's would hurt. He knew from other memories that Snape and Lupin had done this before, quite often -- and Snape seemed uncomfortable every time, at least until--

Lupin started to move; his face twisted into an expression of pure pleasure. Snape groaned beneath him, and the sound seemed to go right to Harry's balls. He spat into his hand and stroked himself again, watching Lupin fuck Snape slowly just a foot away from him.

He wasn't sure what made him do it, but it suddenly seemed like a good idea. Harry crawled forward, straddling Snape's face, and let his cock fall into Snape's open mouth.

He didn't feel anything, of course -- it was just a memory, after all, and he wasn't really there -- but when he looked down, he could pretend Snape was sucking him off. He continued stroking himself with wet fingers, imagining with all his might that it was Snape's warm mouth and tongue moving over the sensitive skin of his prick. He looked up to see Lupin just inches away, his eyes closed in concentration, his mouth opened just a little. Harry could see the tip of his tongue dart in and out of his mouth, wetting his lips.

Harry leaned forward and pressed his lips to the spot where Lupin's would be. He could see Lupin's face, very close, sweat dripping down his forehead, and he could almost imagine that he felt Lupin's mouth against his, hot tongue sliding against his own. He kept stroking his own prick, occasionally looking down to make sure it was still in the right place.

"Faster," Snape panted, startling Harry out of his fantasy for a moment. He stroked harder, in time with Lupin's thrusts, and heard Lupin groan in a way that he knew from these memories meant he was very close. The angle was awkward, but the view was unbelievable, and Harry felt his climax building. His forehead was effectively pressed against Lupin's shoulder now, and he tried to hang on -- just a bit longer.

And then he heard Lupin cry out, saw him shudder against Snape, and Harry let go. He tried to look down, wanted to see himself coming into Snape's mouth, but it was all he could do to stay on his knees. His orgasm shuddered through him, and he rolled to the side, squeezing his cock hard and gritting his teeth, feeling a strange urge to stifle his own cries of pleasure.

A moment later, Snape and Lupin were getting dressed, and not speaking. Harry fumbled for his jeans and managed to pull them back on, only belatedly remembering his pants. He stuffed them in a pocket, and then looked up to see Lupin and Snape kissing, far less violently this time.

"I'll try to be back in two weeks," Lupin said, buttoning the shirt Snape had pulled back on.

"I can't make any promises." Snape's voice was distant, but the expression on his face was not.

"I know." Lupin smiled, kissed him lightly, and then left the room, closing the door behind him. Snape stood and stared at the spot where Lupin had disappeared.

The memory faded, and Harry found himself thrown back into the chair at his desk. He reached for his tea, but it had gone cold. He tapped it with his wand and it steamed again, but he didn't drink it.

He trailed his fingers over his own lips and smiled.

fin

I don't particularly agree with the post, because I don't think that all fan fiction and art is by definition illegal. But that's neither here nor there. Back to the point, which is humor.

First, behold the freaky code that inserts your user name! Cool, huh?

Fanfic is totally gay. Dude, that's the whole point.

Personally, I'd like to see somebody try suing a Harry Potter fanfic writer. At least that way there'd be one court ruling that mentions Snape's penis. That would be worth it fro being able to cite the case law alone.

If Livejournal content were cut back to only what's really allowed by fair use, that would make the last couple rounds of bans look like a Hogwarts picnic. Okay, maybe not so funny...

Actually, it's NOT me because I have said repeatedly and publicly that I do not read or write fanfic. Nor do I draw or look at fan art. Not now, not ever. It does not interest me and never will: quite frankly, I think it's derivative, unoriginal and pointless. Nor am I a member of any fan communities, either on the internet or real life. So unless you're stating that I am somehow suspect because I read published science fiction and like several cult shows or have publicly objected to Livejournal's cackhanded handling of this whole affair, then quite frankly I fail to see why I have been personally singled out in this post. Remember the part about the cool code? Yeah. PWND.

You say, "Harry Potter is a child in the eyes of the law." No. Harry Potter is a *fictional character* in the eyes of the law. Fictional characters *have no legal rights.* None. Note that, according to this logic, JKR is guilty of the murder of Cedric Diggory. (And Harry Potter, if one wants to get weird about it.) Okay, that makes some weird sort of sense.

I think that writing fanfiction is a lot like smoking pot in B.C. Really? I gotta go to B.C. sometime.

Their repeated failure to give specific definitions helps keep both Six Apart *and* fandom safe from the evil ones. Those darn evildoers, at it again.

I have now duplicated the public posts of my LJ on GJ and IJ, where I have the same user name as this one. Feel free to friend as you like.

For the foreseeable future, I'm not leaving LJ. I'm pissed off beyond belief at 6A's horrific approach to customer service, but dammit, we built our community here and we paid for it. We've worked hard to make this a place we could all congregate, and I ain't leaving without a fight.

So even though I'll be crossposting my public entries to all three journals from here on out (flocked stuff will stay here, and I will be backing up weekly from now on), I'm still calling LJ my home.

Okay, and what happened to these journals? They are all bolded out now when I look at my "manage friends" page, just like Ponderosa's and Foo's LJs are. Were these intentional deletions, or are they more casualties?

doodleydo
elizabeth_ice
fic_fairy
frotting_goodhp
smut_wednesday
