Help?

I'd love to migrate my layout from LJ over here, but I have no idea how to do it. Of course, it's one of the "official" LJ ones, so maybe I can't. Is that possible?

If not, can anyone point me to some sort of "Creating LJ Layouts for Dummies" reference?

I've been having a hell of a time trying to move layouts over here too but they aren't coming out the same. :/

Bah.
Yeah, I realize that was absolutely no help at all...
I think it's just going to take some time before lots of these things get straightened out.
I came across a link in Greatestjournal where someone had instructions for using some of LJ's layouts like Flexible Squares, Smooth Sailing and a few others. The instructions worked for me here on insanejournal.

LJ Layouts
Thanks! I'll check that out.

*nothing helpful here*

Just wishing you good luck in the layout moving. I was going to import mine, but the style isn't supported so I ended up making a new one....anyway good luck!

Re: *nothing helpful here*

If I knew how to make a layout I would totally do that instead. :-P
I forget who it was on GJ who had overrides for several layouts, but I did book mark the codes to get yourself Smooth Sailing on here: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/nameless_layout/845.html

It works as long as you're paid (I must say - free users being unable to do style modification kind of sucks). Man, if someone finds a way to get Expressive on here, I will pay as much as this guy wants, lol.
I want my component, with all the nice boxes and the really nice links that let me go anywhere. *sigh*
Yeah, that's what I want too. *sigh*

I am not doing well without my component.
I know component is one of the two that it's copyrighted, but GJ has a kumponent, which is basically the same thing. I don't care about the name as long as I get it.
Thanks! I have a permanent account, so I think I should be able to do anything that's allowed here.

Oh, yeah -- I want to be able to use Expressive!
this will show you how to migrate an LJ style onto GJ and Journal Fen (it also works with IJ)

http://keepaofthecheez.livejournal.com/425570.html

once that is done, you can select the style (ie. FLEXIBLE SQUARES or whatever) in the customization section and customize the same way you did LJ.

from there it's usually just copy-n-paste css codes and what not.

oh, shit i'm sorry... i meant to say: free IJ doesn't allow for this...

Thanks! I'll check that out. I have a permanent IJ account, so no worries. :-)
Well in case you decide to buy Paid accout here on IJ this can help:

Thanks! (I have a permanent account here.)
Cool!

And I forgot this link: http://www.greatestjournal.com/users/musycal_test/1487.html?thread=13263#t13263

This is for stylesheets. There's example for Flexi Squares but it's same for Smooth Sailing and other layouts.
You say you want Expressive? Ok, I don't gurantee anything, but try this

I wanted to try it out before posting here, but I can't go there, since I'm free user. :(

Go to Custimize, to Advanced, Your layers and go from there. I think that link I first gave you can help. I shouldn't be much different.
do you use Expressive on LJ? If so, its one of the layouts currently not available on IJ. I've been trying to find someone who can fix up the source code to make it useable on IJ, but no luck so far. If you have a look at a recent post I give step by step instructions on bringing over some of the layouts, but certain ones aren't adjustable. A community called nameless_layout here on IJ is starting to post some material on layouts in IJ.
This LJ community looks like it could be useful. There are tutorials in the memories. They seem to be easy to follow as I have just managed to add a banner to my layout on IJ.
